2020 Junior Finals.

Challenging 2020 Concludes

Given all the challenges that faced golf this year, Claregolf managed to conclude its junior tournament season in beautiful Autumn sunshine at Doonbeg Trump International Golf Resort Doonbeg with the wast Clare venue staging this year U-14 and U-18 County Matchplay finals.

The U14 finalists were Rory Lillis (Kilrush) and Niall Melody (Dromoland Castle), with victory on the day going to Rory Lillis. The Under eighteen final was between Eoin Magill (East Clare) and Tom Clancy (Kilrush), Eoin Magill won this final adding to his success earlier in the year when he won the Munster Boys Under sixteen Open Championships at Roscrea golf club with a fabulous score of one under par.

The four junior golfers had qualified for the matchplay finals through their participation in the County Parkland championships which took place at East Clare Golf Club and saw Clancy and Melody emerge as winners that day and Lillis and Magill finishing runners up. Also, that day at East Clare Dromoland juniors won the 2020 County Junior League.

Unfourtanley the very popular under thirteen Short course series fell victim to Covid 19 this year it was due to start on March 29th but had to be canceled due to the introduction of the national lockdown. It is hoped that this competition will return in 2021

claregolf would also wish to congratulate all the junior club volunteers at Kilrush golf club for the sterling work taking place in introducing local children between the ages of ten and twelve to the game of golf. The programs the club is running are viewed by the membership as a positive long-term investment in their club’s future by been viewed locally as a friendly welcoming sports amenity within their area. Similar programs take place each year by most clubs in the county and inter-club competition opportunity is provided by Clare Junior Golf who runs the under thirteen short course series. Golf is a game you can play competitively or sociable for life and by taking it up early and having fun learning the game Claregolf hopes you will enjoy and participate in the game for a long time.
