2024 County Scramble At East Clare

In what is the key fund-raiser for Claregolf’s County Junior championships, the Junior County Scramble will take place at the pristine East Clare golf course at Coolreagh, Bodyke, from Saturday through to Sunday, September 28th and 29th, bringing the curtain down on another exciting year for Clare’s golfing stars of the future. Organisers of the weekend’s competition are upping the ante in promoting and supporting Clare’s young golfers. Next year an U13 short course league for boys and girls will be added. Brendan Magill, Director, says, “The number one objective is to ensure every young boy and girl who wants to play golf gets the opportunity to be the best they can be.

This weekend will be our finale for this year in terms of competitions, but it’s also about the future as all proceeds will go towards next year’s activities. We have put a huge effort all across Clare over the past few years into developing our young talent, and it’s only fitting that we do so, given the incredible heritage Clare has in golf. These county junior championships provide a starting point for gaining experience and confidence before advancing to the next level of representing their clubs in countrywide Golf Ireland championships. Since introducing the Clare junior championships fifteen years ago, many Clare juniors have succeeded nationally and internationally. This year alone, Áine Donegan, who is on scholarship in the USA, played on the victorious Great Britain & Ireland team that won the Curtis Cup Match against the USA. Donnacha Halpin won the U16 Leinster Boys Championships, Oscar Kolushs won the Munster Boys U13, and Aideen Walsh won the Irish Ladies Mid Amateur Championship. That is the standard of golfer produced by Claregolf’s County Junior Program. Keeping the pipeline of talent moving along deserves your support. This weekend’s competition will include a gross and net section and a Family Cup. Anyone interested in participating and supporting the next generation of Clare golfers can do so by calling the golf shop at East Clare at 061-921322 or contacting Brendan Magill at 087-9165937 to book a tee time.
