As always and in keeping with time-honored tradition the first and most important calendar event of all clubs each year is their Captains Drive-In. In times gone by the honour of being Captain for the year was bestowed on the winner of the annual club championship in the previous year. As time passed the numbers playing the game have grown and so has the role of the club’s captains. The knowledge now required for this position is one of administrator, committee chairman, financial expert, after-dinner speaker, and all the rest of it. It is for these reasons that club captains, today are usually chosen from among their club committee members who have over a number of years proven their commitment and understanding of the workings of the modern golf club in delivering an excellent experience to the membership, visiting guests, and green fees. Claregolf would like to congratulate all of this year’s incoming captains and wish them well in their honored position.
